Pianist
U-Jung Jung, at age 26, has performed in many venues
in the United States as well as Europe and Asia.
Her many recital appearances include those at the
Pushkin Theater in Vladivostok, Russia, Ruïnekerk
in Bergen, Netherlands, Alice Tully Hall in Lincoln
Center, New York, Paul Recital Hall in New York,
Morse Recital Hall in New York, the Benedict Music
Tent in Aspen, the Music Center of Los Angeles,
Ambassador Auditorium in Pasadena, McCallum Theater
in Palm Desert, Crystal Cathedral in Garden Grove,
and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. She has
also appeared as a soloist with the Vladivostok
Symphony, Aspen Concert Orchestra, the Hour of
Power Orchestra, La Primavera Orchestra, Santa
Ana Symphony, Los Angeles Youth Orchestra, La Mirada
Symphony, Angeles Orchestra, as well as with the
Young Musicians Foundation Debut Orchestra. She
has also collaborated with many musicians as a
chamber musician and has performed extensively
in the United States and Scotland. In addition,
she has taken part in numerous master classes by
world-renowned artists including Emmanuel Ax, Aube
Tzerko, Daniel Pollack, Tong-Il Han, Stephen Prutsman,
and Tatiana Kravchenko.
U-Jung has an impressive list of awards received
from many national and international competitions
and auditions. Her numerous accolades include:
grand prize at the Korea Times Los Angeles Elementary
Division and first prize in their Intermediate
Division, first prize at the Joanna Hodges International
Competition Junior Concerto Division, first prize
in the Southwestern Youth Music Festival (SYMF)
Pianist Showcase Recital Competition, first prize
in the SYMF Open Solo category, first prize at
the Music Teachers Association of California (MTAC)
Concerto Competition, first prize at the Los Angeles
Youth Orchestra Concerto Competition, first prize
in the Bartok Festival sponsored by the California
Association of Professional Music Teachers, winner
of the Concerto Competition jointly sponsored by
the La Mirada Symphony and MTAC, first prize at
the Glendale Piano Competition in the Sophomore
Division, first prize in the Wayne Nadeau Piano
Festival, and first prize at the Music Center Spotlight
Awards in the Classical Instrument Division. For
three consecutive years, she was a winner of the
Young Musicians Foundation (YMF) Chamber Music
Competition and was also a recipient of the prestigious
YMF scholarship for eight continuous years. As
a winner of the Orange County Philharmonic Society’s
Musical Encounters program, she was presented in
a series of recitals in schools throughout Orange
County. Her win at the Aspen Music Festival’s
Nakamichi Piano Competition led to a performance
with the Aspen Concert Orchestra in their 1997
Summer Season.
She recently received her Master of Music degree
from The Juilliard School where she also received
her Bachelor of Music degree studying with Martin
Canin. Her past teachers include Ick Choo Moon,
Hae Young Moon, John Perry, and Antoinette Perry.
Her other activities include Aspen Music Festival,
Bowdoin Summer Music Festival, and the International
Holland Music Sessions.
Although U-jung is mostly known as a concert pianist,
she recently had the opportunity to showcase her
talents in the world of musical theatre when she
shared the role of Fanny Mendelssohn in Julia and
Renato’s latest musical “Felix & Fanny” at
the Actor’s Co-Op in Hollywood. While Julia
handled the Fanny the actress and the singer, U-jung
shadowed her as Fanny the pianist “par excellence”.
U-jung would like to thank her parents for their
continued love and support in all her endeavors
and to thank Julia and Renato for inviting her
the opportunity to be part of this great experience.
